Kristen Marshall from Good Day Sacramento was live from Granite Bay this morning with the Granite BayRugby and JV squad who will be heading to play for the State Title.

Granite Bay wins double crown

Granite Bay rugby won the double crown this afternoon taking 2 Northern California titles; Varsity Gold division and JV Gold division.
In the first round of the playoffs the Varsity team beat the #11 team in the USA San Francisco Golden Gate, 36-14 and held the #19 ranking the USA according to rugby mag.
The win earned the team a match with a very big and physical Hayward team. In a game with 9 lead changes Granite Bay wore down the Hayward team and eventually won 46-29 to earn a place in the finals.
The final match pitted the cross town rivals the Islanders from Burbank HS. The Islanders reached the finals by knocking off the #3 team in US Danville. In a match of 2 great programs Granite Bay came out on top and won the Northern California championship 50-32.
Granite Bay will play for the state title May 25that Treasure Island in San Francisco.
 
The Granite Bay rugby JV team completed the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in the Gold division and held a #1 ranking in the playoffs. Playing LAMO rugby in the first round the JV team exploded for a 64-14 win to reach the semi- finals.
On Saturday Granite Bay played a very big and very physical Diablo team and won 39-29 to reach the finals.
Danville rugby brought a 12-0 record into the finals by cruising thru the regular season and  playoffs. In a match of 2 unbeaten teams and in what many called one of the finest JV Gold rugby finals ever Granite Bay won 17-14 to win the Northern California title.
Granite Bay will play for the state title on May 25th at Treasure Island in San Francisco.
